The past year was difficult for many in agriculture. And 2025 doesn’t look any better in terms of commodity prices and financial pressures. However, together we will do what we in farming do so well. Rice Industry Awards

The 2024 Rice Outlook Conference held recently in Little Rock, Arkansas gave the industry a chance to come together to review the challenges and success of the previous season and plan for the year ahead.

Horizon Ag, in partnership with Rice Farming and USA Rice, was honored to present three deserving members of the rice industry with this year’s 2024 Rice Awards. The award recipients were:

• Al Montna, (left) Rice Lifetime Achievement Award
• Dr. Jason Norsworthy, (center) Rice Industry Award
• Michael Frugé, (right) Rice Farmer of the Year

This event is always a highlight of the conference, but this year’s was truly special for us. Michael is a former Horizon Ag District Field Representative and will always be part of the Horizon Ag family.

2025 Product Lineup

During the New Product Presentation at the 2024 Rice Outlook Conference, Horizon Ag CEO Dr. Tim Walker had an opportunity to bring attention to the newest additions to our portfolio for next season as well as proven varieties getting a lot of attention from growers.

New in 2025 will be:

• CLM05 – A superior Clearfield® medium grain variety from the University of Arkansas rice breeding program. It is our highest-yielding Clearfield medium grain, performing similarly to Taurus, with excellent grain quality and improved blast resistance compared to Jupiter.
• CLHA03 – The next generation high amylose variety from the LSU AgCenter breeding program. It has high yield potential comparable to the other top-performing Clearfield lines and has been favorably received by Central American rice customers looking for unique cooking qualities in demand in the region. This is the type of rice that can help U.S. rice producers take back market share lost to competitors.

We are getting a lot of calls about top-yield potential Clearfield lines like CLL18, CLL19, and CLL16, as well as Provisia® varieties PVL03 and PVL04. To inquire about any of these proven performers, contact your Horizon Ag seed retailer or Horizon Ag District Field Representative.
