Robyn Chlapecka, District Field Representative for Northeast Arkansas and Missouri

We have some exciting news to kick off the New Year at Horizon Ag.

First, we are pleased to announce that Robyn Chlapecka has joined the Horizon Ag team as our District Field Representative for Northeast Arkansas and Missouri.

Robyn brings valuable experience from her previous role as a Field Specialist in Agronomy and with the Rice Verification Program at the University of Missouri. The Eastern Arkansas native grew up among rice, soybean and corn fields and has a passion for sustainable agriculture.

She graduated in 2018 with a bachelor's degree from the Crop, Soil and Environmental Department at the University of Arkansas, and in 2020 achieved a master’s degree in Agronomy and Crop Science at the U of A.

Second, Robyn taking over as District Field Representative for Northeast Arkansas and Missouri enables Jason Satterfield, who had previously been responsible for the territory, to expand on his new responsibilities as Director of Sales, supporting the Horizon District Field Representatives, our retail partners and grower customers.

Contact information for both Robyn and Jason, as well as the rest of the Horizon Ag team, is available on the contact us page.

See You In Memphis!

We hope to see you in Memphis, Tennessee on January 27 and 28 at the Conservation System Cotton & Rice Conference at the Hilton Hotel East Memphis.

Dr. Tim Walker, speaking during a well-attended breakout session at the 2024 conference.

Dr. Tim Walker, Horizon Ag CEO, will be leading two conference breakout sessions entitled Provisia® Rice: Past Lessons Set Stage for Future Success, sharing key learnings from recent seasons that can help rice farmers best manage Provisia varieties and the Provisia Rice System.

Both breakout sessions are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27, with the first at 11:12 a.m. in Meeting Room #6, and the second at 4:51 p.m. in Meeting Room #9.

Horizon Ag launched the first ACCase-tolerant rice in 2018, over 15 years after it launched Clearfield® varieties. In areas like southwest Louisiana and parts of Southeast Arkansas and Northeast Arkansas, a second technology was needed due to the severe threat to yields posed by weedy rice and resistant red rice.

Provisia rice plantings have grown significantly in Southwest Louisiana, with Horizon Ag Provisia varieties capturing over 30 percent of the market in recent years as growers seek to reclaim production potential. However, the adoption of ACCase-tolerant rice in many other production regions has not exceeded 10%, despite the potential benefits the technology brings from rotation and resistance management, and the considerably higher yield potential of new varieties like PVL04.

“Horizon Ag has worked closely with growers and university partners on how to best manage Provisia varieties, making great strides since the launch of Provisia rice,” says Dr. Walker. “The goal of this session is to review best management practices so farmers can successfully integrate this technology into herbicide rotation systems. By doing so successfully, we can extend the lives of these important technologies while improving on-farm productivity.”

Stop By Our Booth

While you’re at the conference, please stop by our Horizon Ag booth in the Trade Show (main tradeshow room – Booths 17 and 18) to visit with the team about how Horizon Ag Clearfield and Provisia varieties can help set the stage for a strong 2025 performance and bottom line.

The Horizon Ag folks at their booth.

We look forward to seeing you at the Horizon Ag booth!

We’ll have information on new CLM05, a high-yield potential Clearfield medium grain from the University of Arkansas breeding program, and new CLHA03, the latest high amylose variety designed to better meet the needs of key markets in Central America.

In addition, we’ll have updates on Horizon Ag varieties in high demand this season, including Clearfield lines CLL18, CLL19 and CLL16 and Provisia PVL03 and PVL04.

“We saw some outstanding yields with these lines in 2024 and, as a result, are currently seeing considerable interest in these proven varieties across the Southern rice production region,” says Satterfield. “We’re looking forward to talking with growers about the upcoming season and answering any questions they have about Horizon Ag varieties.”
